Kiazi Malonga is a child prodigy turned master drummer, cultural bearer, and second-generation Congolese American artist based in Oakland, California. Introduced to the Ngoma drum at age two by his father—the legendary Malonga Casquelourd—Kiazi has spent his life preserving and evolving the ancestral rhythms of the Congo. He became the lead drummer for Fua Dia Congo at age 16 and has since taught and performed across the U.S., Canada, Costa Rica, Europe, and Africa. His latest album, Zu Dia Ngoma (The Voice of the Drum), was released in 2024 via Redtone Records. Kiazi also leads weekly community drum classes and recently launched the Rhythms of Fatherhood Initiative, exploring the role of fatherhood through music and intergenerational connection.
