DESCRIPTION

BottleTree Culture kick offs of the spring edition of "Makinu In The Park," with a high energy Soukous class featuring a live band curated by EPA's own Redtone Records. Makinu In The Park is a free outdoor dance and live music series that was launched in collaboration with the City of East Palo Alto's Summer Park Activation program. The series features world-class instructors and musicians rooted in the movement + music styles of Africa and its global diaspora.

Makinu in the Park emerged as a cultural arts initiative in the summer of 2020, generously backed by the City of East Palo Alto. Blossoming amidst the widespread isolation of the pandemic era, Makinu's mission was clear: to restore hope and foster community reconnection through the transformative power of the arts. This multigenerational endeavor celebrates music and dance traditions originating from Africa and its diverse global diaspora, offering a vibrant and inclusive experience for all.
