DESCRIPTION

Experience the JOY of Guinea Dance with Alseny Soumah. Students will explore the movement, rhythms and songs of Guinea West Africa. The class will begin with a warmup and movement breakdown, followed by progressions across the floor, culminating in the build out of sequences and choreography. Alseny is a master at demystifying the dances of Guinea West Africa. At the end of the class, you will be astounded by what you were able to do. All levels are welcome to join in the JOY.

Alseny Soumah is a master artist who was taught by his family as a young child in Conakry, Guinea. He became Guinea's premiere master dancer, performing with Les Merveilles D'Afrique and Les Ballets Africains, Guinea's national drum and dance company. Alseny has toured Africa, Europe, and the US, and has performed at the Lincoln Center, among other notable venues.
