MORE DETAILS

Nikka Maynard is a gifted performer and teaching artist with over three decades of experience in West African Dance through her training and work with Diamano Coura West African Dance Company. Raised in Berkeley, CA, by Trinidadian parents deeply entrenched in music, Nikka's dance journey began at a young age. She was inspired by the rhythmic melodies of her parents' Reggae and Calypso band, which ignited her passion for movement and prompted her to explore various dance styles. Alongside her artistic pursuits, Nikka discovered the profound impact of liturgical dance as a form of spiritual expression. Through her involvement in the praise dance ministry at her church, she found a deep connection between her faith and her artistry, blending her spiritual beliefs with her love for dance. With unwavering dedication and continued practice, Nikka has mastered both West African Dance and liturgical dance, enabling her to impart her knowledge and passion to her students. Her teaching aims to inspire others to embrace movement not only as a form of artistic expression but also as a means of spiritual connection.
