Teens in this workshop will develop a clear historic knowledge of the 5 fundamentals of Hip-Hop culture, the main players in Hip-Hop along with more challenging forms of locomotor movements and isolations that build up to full combination work focusing on Choreography/Industry based Hip-Hop as well as Foundational Hip-Hop forms like Popping, Locking & Breaking. Students will also learn about movement energy and qualities each day while being guided through a warm-up, movement drills, & combinations as well as there being elements of improv and freestyle used throughout the class. You are welcome to wear a mask, some teachers will still wear a mask but not require all students to wear masks, and masks will also be optional in the lobby, dressing rooms, and common spaces. This policy applies to all SADC locations. SADC has spare masks available at the front desk but suggest still bringing a mask in case there is a last-minute sub or change. If you or your child is immunocompromised and we were not aware of this, please connect with us to further discuss masking needs in particular classes. Reach out to Associate Director of Operations Bianca Cabrera at bianca@shawl-anderson.org or (510) 654-5921. If there is a SUB for a class who requests that all students wear masks, we will note this in the class title and description. SADC is no longer sending out Covid Exposure Notices. Important note: this Masking Policy Update is subject to change at any time.
Katana is a Chicago born dance performance artist, battle dancer, choreographer, and teacher now residing in the Bay Area, CA. She has trained in all different styles of dance such as popping, hip hop, house, ballet, jazz, etc; but has truly found her passion in the street style dance community. Katana’s main style of dance is rooted in popping, waving, and Egyptian bang tuts; a style created by her mentor OG Teabuggz from Chicago. Katana has been traveling and competing in battles all across the country for about 9 years, and she wishes to continue her journey internationally. Katana is also an experienced event host/organizer for the Chicago dance community, hoping to bring that skill forward in the Bay Area. She is the leader of Chicago crew; The Electric Samurais, and a team member of Bay Area crew; IT’s THEM. Katana wishes to continue her training while being able to share the knowledge she has gained.
