Rhythm & Motion Modern Essentials is ideal for new and experienced students alike. The experience is low-pressure, joyful, full-bodied and sweaty. Everyone is welcome! Our Modern format is rooted in contemporary and modern dance vocabulary. Students build core strength and technique through floor and barre-inspired choreography, and then move to standing choreography for technical skill and lyrical, full-body movement for stamina and strength.

Suggested attire: Comfortable clothing that you can easily move in (e.g. tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, yoga pants). This class is generally done in bare feet or socks. About the instructor: Sarah Emmons (she/her) is a teaching artist and performer who graduated with a BFA in Dance from Northern Kentucky University, where she took her very first Rhythm & Motion class. Sarah is a certified barre instructor, and has taught dance and performed in Cincinnati, San Diego, and San Francisco. She has performed with Malashock Dance, Exhale Dance Tribe, Alyssandra Katherine Dance Project, and Garrett + Moulton Productions, among others. Sarah has performed in works ranging from the rock opera One Hundred Days, choreographed by Sonya Tayeh, to dance accompaniments to Ólafur Arnald live in concert. Dancing with the R&M community feels like home and Sarah is thrilled to help guide others to find their truest and brightest expression through movement.
