This class will include a warm-up, choreo section, dancing across the space (think moving in lines across the dance floor in a studio space), a cool down and a short Q & A/discussion section. This will be done to recorded music mostly from the Congo, Central Africa, Soukous and/or Traditional Rhythms of the Ngoma (drum), with a few Afrobeat songs thrown into the mix for warm-up/cool-down. The movements will emphasize the pelvis and torso while using other parts of the body as well. Come try it!

view map*GRASS AREA on the Basketball Side/MacArthur Side, Kids play area is near If you attended the classes during the Pandemic Shutdown, it's the same location. Street parking - so, please give yourself time to find a park and walk to the designated area.
If you have a yoga mat, please bring one, as we may do part of the warm on the ground/grass. Remember to bring your water bottle, wear comfortable clothing and shoes should you choose to keep them on. I invite you to come on over whether you have moved in a while or not, if you like to dance but have never done Congolese or if you already dance this style and just want to move and lastly, perhaps you just need to get out of the house. Whatever the case may be, tell a friend, bring a friend and come out to the park and dance! Youth are welcome as long as they are actually participating. Men, you too have a pelvis so please join us as well! Reminders/Tips: ~Feel free to bring something to wrap around your waist/hips: a sweatshirt, extra fabric/lappa(having something on your waist helps you feel the rotation and accents the movement) ~Please be mindful not to leave anything visible in your vehicles. ~Allow time for finding a parking space. ~Though we will be outdoors, if you are not feeling well, have a fever, cold, etc., please stay home and rest.
