Bopsidy's mission is to empower and unite the dance community with the first online platform for people who dance for fun, professionally and everywhere in between.
On Bopsidy, everyone will be able to showcase their dancer selves, discover other dancers, groups and instructors, and find out about classes and events. Professionals will have access to free and easy tools to build their online brand, find new opportunities and grow their community.
Inspired by Lily Liang's personal journey as a life-long explorer of dance, Bopsidy's vision is to uplift individual dancers and the global dance community as a whole, promoting values of equality, connection and celebration for every dancer and genre.

No, we are not a studio. We are an online community where all are welcome to join and share their love for dance! If you are interested in contacting a particular dancer or dance group, please reach out to them via their social channels (which should be listed on their Bopsidy page). That said, we love to provide recommendations so give us a shout at hello@bopsidy.com if we can help in any way!
We have seen how dance has impacted the lives of so many people across demographics, borders and genres. Dance is an outlet for self-expression, creativity, social connection and physical, spiritual and mental wellbeing. Dance is how many of us connect with our ancestors. Dance is how many of us tell our stories today.
Bopsidy enables dancers of all levels and interests to embrace their identities as dancers and enrich their personal relationship with the world of dance. Dancers will be able to create a profile page to showcase their dance journey and with our discovery features, find classes and events as well as connect with other dancers, teachers and groups who share their interests. Imagine moving to a new city and being able to jump right into a dance community who can help you find what you’re looking for!
Dancers will also be able to better support their favorite artists by helping to promote their events to their community. On Bopsidy, you will find a supportive community that will help the dancer in you to flourish.
Bopsidy is where dance professionals can build their brand as they stay connected with their community. Our platform makes it easy to create a free profile for yourself and your dance group where you can share videos, promote your classes and events, and to keep in touch with your community of mentors, collaborators, supporters, students and groups. With our discovery features, we make it easy for people to find and connect with you, including those looking to hire for teaching and performance opportunities.
Dancers from all cities are invited to join! You may notice that some of our features today are focused on the San Francisco Bay Area as this was our homebase and the community we were most familiar with. Soon, we will be expanding our coverage so you will be able to find and connect with dancers, groups, classes and events in your city, wherever you are! Join now so we can better support your city going forward!
Bopsidy originated from Lily Liang’s own frustrations with finding dance classes in a new city. Lily is a life-long student of dance with favorite styles ranging from Chinese folkloric and Afro-Brazilian to Flamenco and Cuban Salsa. Whether in NYC, Taipei or São Paulo, online searches for new classes led to confusing results. Is this class too easy or advanced? What is the teacher like? What are the other students like?
Lily then experienced firsthand what it was like to produce an evening-length show for Aguas Dance Company’s 2014 production “Movendo com Capoeira.” From hiring a production team (mostly via word-of-mouth) to putting posters up at businesses across San Francisco, she knew there must be a better way to hire for and promote dance events.
Lily met Michael Kamowski at Rotten Tomatoes where they worked closely together on the popular movies and TV reviews site. They share a love for the arts (Mike was a music major!) and building tools to empower people to make better decisions (e.g., what to watch on Netflix). For years they helped people to discover movies and TV shows but in 2019, they reunited to build a discovery platform for dance. Together, they launched Bopsidy, a social platform that takes the dance community to the next level.
Lily, Mike and their small but mighty team are building Bopsidy as a destination for dance, with community at its core. By empowering deeper connections across sub-communities - hip hop, salsa, ballet, flamenco, etc. - they hope that finding your next favorite dance class or learning about dance events will be easier. And in turn, we can better support the artists who make this community so rich and vibrant.
